Roadrunners in second after 36 holes of Golf Iconic Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — UTSA is tied for second after 36 holes of the Golf Iconic Classic, which continued Tuesday at New Mexico State Golf Course (par 72/6,420 yards).

Led by Victoria Schuldt and Lydia Lin, who are both in the top five individuals, the Roadrunners are deadlocked with Nebraska for second at 5-under-par 571 with 18 holes left to play Wednesday. UTSA followed an opening-round 282 with a 289 Tuesday behind Lin, who fired a 3-under 69 to pace the lineup.

The Roadrunners are eight shots behind 36-hole leader San Diego State, which jumped to the top of the leaderboard with an 11-under 277 in the second round. Fresno State is in fourth (-2) and UTEP is fifth (-1) in the 19-team field.

Individually, Schuldt is in a tie with Nebraska’s Ailis Tribolet for second at 4-under 140, three strokes off the pace of 7-under par set by San Diego State’s Kylie Warner, while Lin has a share of fourth at 3-under 141.

Schuldt, a sophomore from Germany, opened the week with a collegiate best-tying 5-under 67 on Monday before posting a 73 today that was highlighted by a birdie on the 355-yard, par-4 fifth hole. That circled number gives her seven for the event, the second-best total for UTSA.

After opening with an even-par 72 yesterday, Lin moved into a four-way tie for fourth thanks to a 69 that featured five birdies, pushing her total for the week to a team-high eight. The transfer from China posted back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5 and then countered a bogey on No. 7 with a four on the 488-yard, par-5 eighth hole. She added two more birdies against only one bogey en route to her sixth par-or-better round of the season.

Yiwei Zhao is tied for 20th with a 1-over 145 (71-74). The freshman from China started her day with a birdie on the 409-yard, par-4 first hole to give her five for the tournament.

Lauren Rios (72-77—149) and Miah Wanserski (76-73—149) round out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 43rd.

The final round is set for Wednesday.
