TROPHY CLUB, Texas — Victoria Schuldt secured a share of the individual crown and the UTSA women’s golf placed second at The Bruzzy, which wrapped up Wednesday at Trophy Club Country Club.
Schuldt fired a collegiate-best 10-under-par 206 to finish in a five-way tie atop the individual leaderboard. Her first collegiate victory was the 23rd in program history and first since Daniela Abonce captured the 2024 American Conference Championship.
Lydia Lin also finished in the top 10, placing eighth with an 8-under 208, while Lauren Rios was 15th with a 5-under 211 to help guide the Roadrunners to a runner-up showing in the team race.
UTSA registered the second-best 54-hole total versus par in school history, carding a 23-under 841 to earn runner-up honors behind Oklahoma (831) and ahead of Texas A&M (843). The Roadrunners also ended up in front of Illinois (852), Nebraska (852), Xavier (854), Texas Tech (856), North Texas (866), BYU (869), Texas State (878) ad ULM (885).
Schuldt entered the final round in a two-way tie for the lead at 9-under par after she turned in rounds of 68 and 67 on Tuesday, setting a school record for low 36-hole total in the process. The sophomore from Hamburg, Germany, posted a 1-under 71 today on the strength of four birdies, including three over a four-hole stretch on the front nine.
Schuldt led the field in par-five scoring at 8-under par thanks to a pair of eagles recorded in the second round, while finishing the week with 10 birdies. Her 10-under 206 now is tied for the fifth-best 54-hole total in school history, and she now has notched two straight top-five showings dating back to last season’s conference championship, where she tied for fifth.
Meanwhile, Lin made her UTSA debut a memorable one with her eighth-place effort. The sophomore transfer from Northern Arizona started her week with a 67-70—137 on the opening day before carding a 71 in the final round to close out an 8-under 208. She logged birdies on Nos. 5-6 and again on the 348-yard, par-4 ninth and 167-yard, par-3 13th holes, giving her a team-high 15 birdies for the tournament.
Rios posted UTSA’s best round of the final day with a 5-under 67, matching Lin’s score in the first round and Schuldt’s second-round scorecard for the Roadrunners’ top score of the event. The fifth-year senior from nearby Coppell High School bounced back in a big way from an opening-round 75 with a 69 on Tuesday afternoon before her collegiate best score today. She wrote down six birdies over her final 18 holes with four coming as part of a 32 on the front en route to charting the best 54-hole tally (-5/211) of her UTSA career.
Yiwei Zhao grabbed a share of 30th with an even-par in her UTSA debut. The freshman from China opened with rounds of 72 and 73 before posting a 1-under 71 that was highlighted by five birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 4-5.
Maria Bastarrica rounded out the UTSA lineup in 51st (76-77-73—226), while Miah Wanserski finished 57th (74-79-76—229) while competing as an individual.
The Roadrunners will return to the course Sept. 21-22 when they travel to Canada for the Canadian Collegiate in Aurora, Ontario.
