SAN ANTONIO — The 22nd season of UTSA women’s golf will get underway this Tuesday-Wednesday, Sept. 8-9, with The Bruzzy, which will be hosted by North Texas at Trophy Club Country Club’s Whitworth Course.
Under the direction of 10th-year head coach Summer Batiste, the Roadrunners travel a lineup consisting of Victoria Schuldt, Lydia Lin, Lauren Rios, Yiwei Zhao and Maria Bastarrica, while Miah Wanserski will compete as an individual.
UTSA will face a field that includes BYU, Illinois, Nebraska, North Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, ULM and Xavier.
The field will play 36 holes on Tuesday with the final round slated for Wednesday. Live scoring will be provided at scoreboard.clippd.com.
The Roadrunners have played in The Bruzzy three times previously, the last in 2024 when it was contested at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Top-15 finishes by Daniela Abonce and Camryn Carreon guided UTSA to fourth place out of 13 teams.
UTSA is coming off a 2025-26 campaign that featured seven top-10 team finishes, including a pair of third-place efforts. The Roadrunners claimed sole possession of third at the American Conference Championship, their highest placing since joining the league three years earlier, on the strength of a trio of top-seven individual finishes from Schuldt (T-5th), Abonce (T-7th) and Rios (T-7th).
Schuldt is entering her second season after appearing in all 11 tournaments during her debut campaign. The Hamburg, Germany, native recorded a 75.64 stroke average and eight par-or-better scorecards over 33 rounds en route to all-conference accolades. She tied for fifth after posting a 3-over-par 219 (72-73-74) at the American Conference Championship and fired a 4-under 212 (67-73-72) to earn a share of 11th at the MountainView Collegiate.
Rios is back for her fifth year as a Roadrunner after leading the team with a 74.3 stroke average and 10-par-or-better scorecards across 33 rounds in 2025-26. The Coppell High School tied for third with a 1-under-par 215 (71-70-74) at the Red Raider Invitational and she finished in a tie for seventh at the American Conference Championship after carding a 220 (70-77-73).
Bastarrica returns for her fourth season at UTSA after playing in eight tournaments in 2025-26. A native of San Sebastian, Spain, she registered a 77.17 stroke average in 24 rounds. She earned a share of 24th at the American Conference Championship after posting a 226 (74-75-77).
Three newcomers will represent the Roadrunners at The Bruzzy this week.
Lin is a transfer from Northern Arizona, where she appeared in five tournaments in 2025-26 as a true freshman. The Guangzhou, China, native posted her top finish by tying for 11th at the Red Rocks Invitational after carding a 2-over-par 218 (72-72-74), and she fired a 1-over 217 (72-72-73) to grab a share of 23rd at the PING ASU Invitational.
Zhao is in her first season at UTSA after attending Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, Massachusetts. Originally from Zhengzhou City, China, she owns more than a dozen top-10 finishes on the amateur circuit, including a tie for first at the 2025 AJGA International Pathway Championship. She also claimed top honors at the 2024 Guangdong Junior Championship.
Wanserski is a true freshman from Downers Grove, Illinois, where she starred at Downers Grove South High School. She was the 2025 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A runner-up as a senior, carding a 3-under-par 141 (72-69) that included 10 birdies for the event. She also claimed the IHSA Regional Championship and the West Suburban Conference title by shooting a 3-under 69.
