UTSA to tee off season Sunday with Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s golf team will tee off the 2026-27 season on Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 6-8, with the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by Coastal Carolina at Grande Dunes Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Matt Wernecke, the Roadrunners will travel a lineup of Francisco Solorza, Brayden Bare, Gabriel Derbez, David Martinez and Bryce Womack.

UTSA will line up against Appalachian State, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Elon, Florida Atlantic, Illinois State, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, North Alabama, Stetson, UNC Wilmington and Winthrop.

The field will play 18 holes each day. Live scoring will be provided at scoreboard.clippd.com.

This will mark the first trip to Myrtle Beach for UTSA and just the program’s second visit to the Palmetto State, as the Roadrunners finished eighth in the 2023 Carolina Cup in Spartanburg.

UTSA is coming off a 2025-26 campaign that featured eight top-10 team finishes, highlighted by winning the Military City Collegiate and placing second at the Golden Nugget Invitational after firing a program-record 38-under 826 (270-277-279). The Roadrunners also registered a third-place showing at the Compadres Collegiate in Mexico.

Solorza is riding the waves from a successful summer that saw him capture the Mexican National Amateur Championship with a 9-under 275 (67-71-70-67) in July and make an appearance in the 126th U.S. Amateur in August. Last season, the Guadalajara, Mexico, native played in 10 events and posted a 73.93 stroke average. He logged two top-10 finishes, including tying for fifth place with a 5-under-par 211 (69-75-67) at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate.

Bare is back for his final campaign after appearing in 11 events and posting a trio of top-10 finishes in 2025-26. The Waco native registered a 73.52 stroke average and 14 par-or-better scores in 33 rounds, breaking 70 five times including a 5-under 67 in the second round of the Golden Nugget Invitational where he tied for fifth with a 9-under 207.

Martinez is entering his third season as a Roadrunner. The Houston native appeared in five events this past spring, recording a 73.64 stroke average in 14 rounds. He posted his top finish at the Compadres Collegiate after carding a 221 (75-75-71) to tie for seventh.

Derbez and Womack will be making their UTSA debuts in South Carolina.

Derbez is a true freshman from Monterrey, Mexico, who qualified for the 77th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, where he finished at 2-under-par 142 (69-73) to tie for 33rd. He claimed medalist honors at a trio of events in 2025, including winning the LXX Campeonato Nacional Interclubes with a 209 (69-68-72).

Womack is a senior transfer from Texas State who prepped at Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio. A former NJCAA All-American at Midland College, he appeared in 10 events during the 2025-26 campaign, registering a 72.4 adjusted scoring average for the Bobcats. He turned in 16 par-or-better scorecards, including six sub-70 rounds. His top finish was a tied for fifth (-8) at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
