HOUSTON – On Friday, UTSA Women’s Tennis opens play at its second event of the fall slate. The Roadrunners visit the Bayou City for the Rice Fall Invitational, a three-day tournament from the George R. Brown Tennis Center. Alongside UTSA will be Rice, Houston, SMU, Tulane, UTRGV, Baylor, Sam Houston, Northwestern State and LA Tech.
Play begins at 9 a.m. Friday with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Saturday will feature one round each of both doubles and singles, with one final round of singles slated for Sunday. In total, seven Roadrunners will compete in singles play, with Celine Absawi headlining her squad in Flight 2 play. Three duos will also hit the courts in doubles play, led by newcomer duo Katsiaryna Dubik and Gabriela Felix da Silva in Flight 1.
Last week, four Roadrunners advanced to their respective flight finals in singles before inclement weather ended the Kimbell Memorial Invitational early. The duo of Akari Tomoyose and Aoka Nagasawa were prepped for their finals bout as a doubles duo in the gold flight as well. Notably, in Flight B of singles play, Celine Absawi and Giuliana Giardina were destined for an all-UTSA finals matchup from Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex.
