DURHAM, N.C. — Sam Acharya tied for sixth place to lead UTSA to a share of 10th at the Rod Myers Invitational, which was shortened to 36 holes due to weather delays and concluded Tuesday at Duke University Golf Club.
Originally scheduled for 54 holes, the tournament was reduced to 36 due to lightning delays on Monday afternoon that forced the suspension of the second round until Tuesday morning.
Acharya ended up in a five-way tie for sixth at 5-under-par 139, collecting his second career top-10 finish in the process. The sophomore from Nepal opened the event with a 71 on Monday and then fired a 4-under 68 in the second round for his sub-70 scorecard as a Roadrunner.
The Roadrunners moved up two spots in the team standings in the final round, tying with Wofford for 10th at 3-over 579. UTSA carded a 6-over 294 in round one before logging a nine-shot improvement with a 3-under 285 for the second round. The Roadrunners were seven strokes ahead of Princeton and eight in front of Virginia Tech while ending up just eight out of the top five in a packed team leaderboard.
Acharya recorded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 11-12 in his opening round that included only one bogey. He wrote down six more birdies in the second round, circling his number on three consecutive holes twice during the round that spanned two days. Teeing off in the shotgun start from No. 17, he had birdies on the 573-yard, par-5 seventh, the 173-yard, par-3 eighth and the 493-yard, par-5 ninth holes to get help offset a pair of bogeys earlier in the round. He then closed strong with a four on the 550-yard 14th, a two on the 216-yard 15th and a three on the 402-yard 16th to get to 4-under for the round and 5-under for the week.
Acharya’s tie for sixth marked his second-best finish as a Roadrunner behind a fourth-place showing at the 2026 Golden Nugget Invitational in March.
Brayden Bare tied for 36th with a 1-over 145. The Waco native opened with a 73 and then carded an even-par 72 that featured two birdies and an eagle on No. 9.
Gabriel Derbez grabbed a share of 53rd at 5-over 149. The freshman from Mexico bounced back from an opening-round 77 with a 72 that was fueled by five birdies, including three over a four-hole stretch.
Francisco Solorza and David Martinez rounded out the UTSA lineup in 69th (78-73—151) and 81st (73-77—150).
UNC Greensboro captured the team title with a 556, followed by UNC Wilmington (561), Harvard (564), Duke (567) and George Mason (571) in the top five.
Vijay Powell of George Mason claimed the individual crown with a 10-under 134 (68-66).
The Roadrunners will return to action on Oct. 5-6 at the West Bay Collegiate in Estero, Florida.
