Sydney Bryant named American Conference Offensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – On Monday, the American Conference released its third set of 2026 weekly volleyball superlative awards. The league recognized four student-athletes, highlighting UTSA’s Sydney Bryant as Offensive Player of the Week. The first-year Roadrunner posted 40 total kills as the Navy & Orange swept Gonzaga, East Texas A&M and IU Indy at the Roadrunner Classic. For her efforts, Bryant secured the program’s first such distinction since joining the conference in July 2023.

At the Roadrunner Classic, Bryant led UTSA to a 3-0 record, taking all nine sets in the process. The redshirt freshman paced the Roadrunners with 4.44 kills per set, doing so on a .354 hitting percentage. Across the tournament, she added 10 blocks, four digs and her first collegiate ace. The Richmond, Texas, native joined two other teammates on the Roadrunner Classic All-Tournament Team, taking MVP honors.

During Saturday’s sweep of the Jaguars, the hosts hit .403 to set a new team season high. Bryant wowed with 15 kills on a .636 clip, tallying just one error in the win. Carol Price-Torok’s bunch notched a hitting percentage of .300 or better for the fourth straight match, doing so for the first time since November 2016.

UTSA has won 13 straight sets overall, matching the program’s longest stretch since 2013. Over the run, Bryant has notched 53 kills on a .353 hitting percentage, bumping her season clip up to .270. During the more-than-four-match spurt, the George Ranch High School product also poured in 12 blocks and four digs, helping hold opponents to a mark of just .085 on 414 swings.

This week, Bryant heads back home to the Bayou City where she will lead the ‘Runners into battle at Houston’s Flo Hyman Classic. After visiting HCU (Sept. 17) and the Cougars (Sept. 18), the squad will face rival Texas State in a neutral bout on Sept. 19. Thursday and Friday’s contests will be streamed live on ESPN+ with all the action also available to follow via utsa.statbroadcast.com.
