UTSA to take on 21st Annual UIW Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – Fresh off the season opener, the UTSA cross country team will be back in action on Saturday as they compete at the 21st Annual UIW Invitational at the Windcrest Golf Course. The men’s 8k will kick-start the festivities at 8 a.m., while the women’s 5k will begin at 8:40 a.m.

Along with UTSA and host school UIW, Dallas Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M-San Antonio, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-International, Texas Lutheran, Texas Southmost College, Texas State, Trinity, and UTRGV will compete.

Junior Andruw Villa will look to keep the momentum going, as he performed well in his Roadrunner debut, placing second in the 2026 Sam Musgrave UIW Twilight with a 6k time of 18:17.47. He will be joined by sophomores Austin Lyda and David Zuniga, and freshmen Matthew Cato, Zac Mangum, Murff McLaughlin, Christion Meiners, and Thomas Tamayo, who all played a role in UTSA’s average time of 19:10 and a third-place finish in the lid-lifter. Additionally, sophomore Amisadai Yanez is slated to compete in 2026 for the first time.

For the women, first-year student Cadence Harris impressed in her first collegiate meet, with a 15:01.6 placing her 19th in the 4k at the UIW Twilight. The squad was fourth last time out, with classmates Kira Albino and Isabel Burke also crossing the tape under the 16-minute mark. Senior Gracie Ortiz, sophomore Joule Cavazos, and freshmen Ana Garza, Haley Hill, Madeline Constante, Ca’Mia Patterson, Alexia Rosas, and Ryland Ross-Jurado will feature in the race, while junior Meryeme Mai will make her UTSA debut.
