SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team made its 2026 debut on Wednesday night at the Park West Athletics Complex, hosting the Texas Longhorns in the first exhibition action of the season. UTSA secured the full time lead at the end of a shortened regulation play, but Texas was able to log a tying goal with seconds remaining in the first of two situational periods – closing out the exhibition in a 1-1 draw.
In the first of two 35-minute halves, the Longhorns got the first early chance, but the Roadrunners were first to strike. The Roadrunners moved a fast attack up the pitch to Sabrina Taber, who set Shea Ryan for a long cross behind the back line to Brooklyn Bailey on the back post for the score in the fourth minute.
For the remaining time in regulation, the UTSA defense held and limited Texas to just six shots in the 70 minutes of regular time – holding out into the 80th minute overall.
With just :06 remaining in the first 10-minute situational period that followed, Sadie Hoch slipped a goal in to knot the overall scoring at 1-1 – where things would end at the final horn. The Roadrunners came away with a 12-10 shooting lead.

“Really pleased; Texas is a fantastic program, and the new coaching staff is going to have them turned around in no time. They’re very good on the ball, very patient. They’ve got dangerous players in every position. It was great to see our players show the discipline defensively and also the aggressiveness on the attack we’ve been training for the last three weeks. For us to come out and get that goal early on and have moments of quality play that could have resulted in other goals, there’s a lot to take from it. We’re really happy, proud and there’s lots for us to continue learning as we get rested and recovered to go to Corpus on Saturday.”
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners play their second and final exhibition on Saturday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, facing the Islanders at noon on Aug. 8 at Dugan Family Soccer Stadium. UTSA officially opens the 2026 campaign on Wednesday, Aug. 12, hosting Texas State at 7:30 p.m. with the Battle for I-35 in the first UTSA athletic event of the school year.
