FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On Sunday, UTSA Volleyball concluded its stay at the 2026 Razorback Invitational. The Roadrunners fell at the hands of the tournament hosts in four sets from Barnhill Arena. An afternoon plagued by 27 attack errors ended in the second defeat of the young Navy & Orange campaign, dropping them to 1-2 while Arkansas (3-0) remained perfect.
Set-by-set: UTSA loses 1-3 (21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 17-25)
FIRST SET
Ledisi Kpea and Sydney Bryant teamed up for four points in a six-rally stretch that put UTSA ahead 11-10 early, but the hosts answered with a 5-0 run into the media timeout. Giada Obregon the picked up where her squad left off on Saturday, dropping in an ace amid a spurt that drew the sides back even at 16 all. After a Carol Price-Torok timeout down two, the Arkansas lead swelled to 23-18. Despite five first-frame terminations from Bryant and another ace from Megan Hawkins, 11 total attack errors proved costly as the Roadrunners’ comeback attempt fell short at 25-21.
SECOND SET
An early swing from Ally Tribe produced a 4-4 stalemate before Gigi Mason followed with two points of her own. Neither side was able to create much separation as the Razorbacks built a 12-10 edge. Exiting a timeout, the hosts ripped off a 9-3 run that pushed them ahead 21-13 on an ace. While Mason came through with four more kills late in the stanza, Arkansas still prevailed 25-20 to pull ahead by two sets.
THIRD SET
A quartet of Razorback miscues pushed UTSA ahead 7-6 before Caroline Tredwell headed back to the service line. The third-year ‘Runner commanded a six-point run while Brooke Elliott landed three kills. Kpea then found her groove with three more terminations to enter the media timeout up 15-7. Arkansas’ second stoppage followed an Ally Tribe ace that put her squad ahead 20-11, setting up an eventual 24-15 advantage. Two Razorback aces wasted both of the visitors’ timeouts as a 7-0 run breathed life into the home crowd. Eventually, Kpea and Mason teamed up for a set-clinching block at 25-22, thwarting the comeback.
FOURTH SET
Starting the frame was Brooke Elliott, who quickly produced a block and two kills before Tribe set up her team with an 8-6 edge. The ‘Runners never held a two-point edge the rest of the way and enjoyed their final tie at 12-12. Ten of the ensuing 14 rallies fell in the hosts’ favor as the Razorbacks pulled away by a final margin of 25-17.
NUMBERS OF NOTE
- After a program-record 16 aces on Saturday, UTSA tallied just four against Arkansas.
- The Roadrunners’ .182 hitting percentage was their lowest in a match this fall.
- For the second straight day, Sydney Bryant paced her squad in kills, tallying 15 to go with a pair of blocks.
- Gigi Mason posted 14 kills for the second consecutive afternoon, joining Bryant as the lone other Roadrunner to surpass double digits.
- Valeria Ortiz and Megan Hawkins split setting duties, racking up 25 and 23 assists, respectively.
- Ledisi Kpea’s six total blocks were tied for the most by a Roadrunner in a single match this campaign.
- Junior Ally Tribe finished her afternoon with eight kills, 15 digs, two blocks and an ace.
- Giada Obregon was the only visitor to rack up more digs than Tribe, collecting 17 to go with an ace.
- Brooke Elliott posted an individual season high with eight kills, doing so on a .636 clip with one block and a dig.
- Among Roadrunners with at least 25 attempts, Gigi Mason now leads the charge with a .256 hitting percentage this season.
UP NEXT
After their season-opening tournament, the Roadrunners (1-2) are set return home for a five-match stint at the Convocation Center. UTSA will host a pair of in-state foes as UIW and Tarleton State roll in on Sept. 3 and 4, respectively.
