SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Aaron Fox announced the newest addition to the squad on Friday, in the form of Judson High School product, Ana Garza.
“Another great opportunity to help a local talent reach her potential in her performances and in the classroom,” Fox said. “We’re excited to welcome Ana to the squad and with her career progression, we look forward to her contributing early with our distance group.”
As a senior, Garza was dominant for the Rockets, becoming the first individual to qualify for the Texas UIL 6A State Cross Country Championships since 1992. She was Judson’s first regional qualifier since 2014 as a sophomore, reaching that level in each of her final three seasons. Holding a personal best of 18:43.0 in the 5k, she is the school record holder, with her benchmark nearly a full minute faster than the previous time of 19:41.23.
On the track, Garza has registered top times of 5:17.34 in the 1600m and 2:18.09 in the 800m. She qualified for the area meet in the 800m in 2023, placed second in the 800m, and took silver in the 1600m at area in 2025 to punch her tickets to regionals.
Graduating with a 4.0, Garza got the job done in the classroom, earning Suma Cum Laude honors along with eight Academic All-District awards between cross country and track. Adding to her trophy case, she was on the All-Junior All-City San Antonio Team, the All-Senior All-City San Antonio Team, is a two-time Track & Field Girls First-Team All-City, Second-Team All-State in cross country and the Cross Country All-Senior Texas All-State Team. In addition to competing with the Rockets, she clubbed with Celerity Track Club.
