SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos announced on Friday that Nick Castro has been named the seventh head coach of the Roadrunners men’s tennis program.
An introductory digital press conference will be held on Sept. 9 and can be viewed live on ESPN+ at noon CT.
“I’m extremely excited to welcome Nick Castro as our next head men’s tennis coach,” Campos said. “During this search, it became clear that Nick not only possesses the coaching expertise to elevate our program, but also a deep commitment to the values that define UTSA Athletics. He is passionate about developing student-athletes academically, athletically and personally, and he understands the important role college athletics plays in preparing young people for success beyond graduation. His energy, character and proven ability to recruit and develop talent make him an outstanding fit for our program, and we look forward to the future of UTSA men's tennis under his leadership.”
Castro will make his way to San Antonio following three seasons as an assistant men’s tennis coach at Air Force, where he helped the squad to wins over three ranked opponents. He played a pivotal role in recruiting, signing a pair of top-10 mid-major recruiting classes in 2024 and 2026, according to tennisrecruiting.net, while landing the nation’s No. 1 recruit in 2024. During his time with the Falcons, he helped fundraise for the program, improving the indoor and outdoor facilities and funding a foreign tour that included stops in Germany and Sweden.

Prior to his time at Air Force, Castro spent 2021-23 as the head tennis coach at the prestigious IMG Academy, where he coached elite junior players, preparing them for collegiate and professional competition. He designed and implemented rigorous development plans aimed at advancing their ITF and ATP rankings while helping them earn collegiate scholarships.
Before heading to IMG Academy, Castro spent a year as the full-time touring coach for ATP professional Mitchell Krueger, guiding him toward a career-high ATP ranking of 148.
Castro was an assistant women’s tennis coach at Pacific in 2018-19 and also had stints at Auburn and Fresno State.
A Fresno, California, native, Castro earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in coaching from Fresno State.
