Mangum makes his way to San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced the signing of Zac Mangum on Friday, who heads to the Military City by way of Georgetown, Texas.

“We are excited to add a talented distance runner out of Central Texas in Zac,” Fox said. “He has shown a lot of growth in cross county and excelled at the longer distance events, and can grow into an asset for our program. We’re excited to get started on helping him reach his potential and work toward his classroom goals.”

Mangum was dominant for Georgetown High School, winning individual District 23-5A cross country championships as both a junior and senior, and picking up an all-district nod in each of his four high school seasons. He was Texas 5A All-State and earned All-Region III honors as both a sophomore and senior. Holding a personal best of 15:16.9 in the 5k from the 2025 Georgetown/East View Invitational, Mangum helped his team to a second-place finish at the UIL 5A State Championship meet in 2023, with the squad finishing sixth in 2022 and ninth in 2025. Meanwhile, Mangum finished sixth individually at the 2025 UIL State Championships.

On the track the Eagles picked up district championships in 2023 and 2024, aided by a personal-best of 4:18.58 in the 1,600-meter, 9:19.73 in the 3,200-meter and 1:59.86 in the 800-meterm. He reached the regional finals in the 3200m and 1600m as a sophomore, before winning district championships in both events as a junior. Mangum went on to win the area meet in the 3200m and was runner-up in the 1600m ahead of a seventh-place finish at the 3200m state championships. As a senior, he was a regional finalist in the 3200m and 1600m and across his career he was a four-time Academic All-District selection.
