ATLANTA — UTSA redshirt senior Bryce Grays has been named to the 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, Allstate and the Wuerffel Foundation announced Tuesday.
Grays, who was named a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team earlier this summer, is one of 113 student-athletes selected to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, recognizing college football players from across the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) who exemplify community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement.
Grays has volunteered his time with a wide array of community service projects and initiatives. He has participated in the Get in the Game, Save a Life and Power of Collegiate programs, as well as San Antonio’s MLK March, which is one of the largest in the country. He spends time at a local children’s hospital, has volunteered for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Stomp Out Cancer campaigns and has helped with local toy drives. Additionally, he has worked local events such as the UTSA Diploma Dash, St. Luke’s Youth Track & Field Meet and the Democracy Prep School’s End of the Year Block Party. During UTSA’s 2023 Frisco Bowl trip, he helped prep and pack food for Frisco FastPacs, which provides meals to local children when school is not in session.
Grays also is a member of the UTSA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), on which he served as the Volunteer Chair, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
On the field, Grays has played in 37 career contests with the Roadrunners over the past three seasons. A money backer and special teams contributor, he has posted 36 total tackles, 22 solo stops, four tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup.
In 2025, Grays appeared in all 13 games and registered 22 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, one sack and a forced fumble to help UTSA to a seven-win season that was capped with a 57-20 victory over FIU in the First Responder Bowl, the Roadrunners’ third consecutive bowl win. He made a season-best six stops in the 17-16 road triumph over Colorado State, and he also logged a sack for a 14-yard loss and a forced fumble against South Florida.
Established in 2005, the Wuerffel Trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrates their impact, and inspires greater service across the nation. A member of the National College Football Awards Association, the Wuerffel Trophy is presented annually to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field. It is the first major award honoring the character of service to others.
The Wuerffel Trophy is named after Heisman Trophy winner, College Football Hall of Famer, former NFL quarterback, and renowned humanitarian Danny Wuerffel, whose life mission is to inspire greater service in the world. Wuerffel led the University of Florida to four SEC Championships and the Gators’ first National Football Championship as the team’s star quarterback. The 1996 Heisman Trophy winner set 17 NCAA and Florida records and won a myriad of other awards including the Maxwell Award, the Davey O’Brien Award, and The William V. Campbell Trophy, presented to the nation’s top scholar-athlete. As a nationally recognized humanitarian, Wuerffel inspires leaders to use their influence to make a positive impact and currently serves as President of the Wuerffel Foundation.
The Roadrunners will kick off their 16th season of football and seventh under Traylor against UTRGV on Saturday, Sept. 5. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Alamodome.
UTSA also will host Colorado State (Sept. 26), South Florida (Oct. 8), Navy (Oct. 17), North Texas (Nov. 14) and Tulsa (Nov. 27 or 28). The Roadrunners will travel to Texas State (Sept. 12), Texas (Sept. 19), Rice (Oct. 3), Tulane (Oct. 24), Florida Atlantic (Nov. 5) and UAB (Nov. 21).
