Roadrunners welcome prep post Mike Broxton Jr.

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s basketball team announced on Friday the summer addition of a high school post player for the 2026-27 roster, with Mike Broxton Jr. joining the Roadrunners in summer training heading into the third season under head coach Austin Claunch. Broxton is the eighth offseason signing announced by the Roadrunners and the first frontcourt player to join UTSA this summer.

“Mike is an exciting young big man with tremendous upside and the physical tools to make a major impact in our program,” Claunch said. “He brings great size, athleticism and toughness, while playing with a relentless motor every time he steps on the floor. Mike is a mobile post player who runs the floor, finishes above the rim and gives us a strong presence in the paint. We believe he has the potential to develop into an elite rim protector and shot blocker, and we’re excited to help him continue expanding his offensive game. Mike’s work ethic, competitiveness and ceiling make him a tremendous addition to our program, and we’re thrilled to welcome him and his family to UTSA.”

Joining the Roadrunners’ frontcourt as a 6-foot-10, 140-pound power forward and center out of the high school ranks in St. Petersburg, Florida, Broxton is a graduate of Gibbs High School, where he helped the 2024 Gladiators to a 27-5 record, District 11 and Region 3 titles and the FHSAA Class 4A State Championship as the No. 1 public school in Florida and No. 33 in the nation – the first state crown in 55 years for the program. The 2025 Gibbs team also went 27-5 and was the 4A State Runner-up. As a senior, Broxton averaged 11.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. He was named to the Magic City Invitational All-Tournament Team and earned 2025-26 Second Team All-Pinellas County Athletic Association (PCAC) honors after leading the district and ranking eighth in Florida 4A for rpg and bpg. He also played football with 370 yards on 26 receptions (14.2 ypc) as a wide receiver, logging 14 tackles with 3.0 sacks as a defensive end, earning him First Team All-PCAC honors. He just wrapped a standout summer circuit with Team Speights and has also played for the Florida Rebels.
