MEXICO CITY — Bolstered by a final-round 67, UTSA’s Francisco Solorza claimed the 2026 Mexican National Amateur Championship by one shot on Sunday at Mexico City Country Club.
Entering the final round in a tie for second place at 5-under par, Solorza used six birdies to help him turn in his second 4-under scorecard of the tournament and finish with a 9-under 275, one stroke clear of the runner-up. The Guadalajara, Mexico, native had a pair of birdies on the front nine, writing down a four on the 615-yard second and a three on the 457-yard sixth. He logged four birdies on the back to help offset his only two bogeys of the day, posting a 3-under 33 on that side of the course.
Solorza opened the 72-hole event with a 67 on Thursday that featured seven birdies. The rising sophomore posted an even-par 71 on Friday and a 1-under 70 on Saturday to stay in contention for the crown, which he secured with the red number in the final round.
Solorza is the second Roadrunner to win an amateur title in their native country this summer, joining Sam Acharya, who captured his second straight Nepal International Amateur Golf Championship in May.
