SAN ANTONIO – With the first of many announced signings to bolster next year’s roster, UTSA Director Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox has announced the addition of English multi-events champion Luke Pichler to the Roadrunners’ roster for the 2026-27 school year, bringing another highly accomplished student-athlete into the program with the addition of England’s top-ranked indoor U20 heptathlete.
“Luke brings a lot of success and experience in the multi-events to our program and he’s constantly progressing, while also proving himself in the classroom,” Fox said. “We can’t wait to get to work on testing his potential and helping him to reach his academic goals.”
Hailing from North Shields, England, Pichler is a 2026 graduate of St Thomas More Roman Catholic Academy and competes for Blyth Running Club. Named a 2026 Sport Scholar and receiving the Platinum Award from local charity Sport Newcastle for service to sport and being a role model, Pichler is the U20 decathlon record holder for the North East of England with 6,593 points accrued while earning fifth at the 2025 United Kingdom U20 Championships. Pichler ranks No. 2 in England U20 decathlon in 2026, ranking sixth nationally in U20 last season, in addition to leading the 2026 England U20 rankings in the heptathlon. He also holds Northumberland Schools’ AA records in pentathlon, octathlon, decathlon and 80-meter hurdles and is the first Northumberland athlete to win the national English Schools Combined Events Championships (2022) – one of seven national titles he won that season.
Pichler finished fourth in the decathlon at the England U20 Combined Events championships at the beginning of July, garnering 5,825 points while winning the 110-meter hurdles section (14.98), 100-meter (11.35) and high jump (1.88m/6-2). He also finished second in the 110m hurdles at the North Eastern Counties Athletics Association Championships (NECAA) and earned gold in the discus and pole vault. In addition to fifth at the UK U20 Championships last year, he was selected to represent England at the indoor 2025 Swedish U20 Indoor Combined Events Championships, finishing second in the heptathlon on a career-best 5,150 points – ranking him first among UK U20 athletes. This season, he won gold and helped the team to victory at the Schools International Athletic Board (SIAB) Indoor Pentathlon, earned U20 heptathlon silver at the 2025 England Athletics Indoor Combined Events and collected silver in the discus and 100m while winning gold in the shot put and javelin at the NECAA Championships. During his junior athletics career, he’s recorded 20 national medals, including eight golds, and has represented England internationally three times. He holds a top time of 14.88 in the 110m hurdles, while reaching 6.96m (22-10) in the long jump, 7.21 in the 60m and 1.90m (6-2.75) in the high jump.
