Roadrunners announce signing of guard Isaiah Watts

SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunners will add another experienced guard to the 2026-27 roster, as the UTSA men’s basketball team announced on Friday the addition of transfer Isaiah Watts to next year’s squad, heading into the third season under head coach Austin Claunch. Watts is the sixth spring signing announced by the Roadrunners.

“We’re excited to add Isaiah Watts to our program,” Claunch said. “Isaiah is a high-character young man who contributed to an NCAA Tournament team and brings valuable experience at a high level. He’s a versatile guard who can impact the game on both ends of the floor with his offensive skill set and elite defensive feel. We believe he’ll be a great fit for our team and culture.”

Joining the Roadrunners’ backcourt at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, Watts played last season as a junior at Maryland. He appeared in 32-of-33 games for the Terrapins, making eight starts for an average of 17.1 minutes. At Maryland, he averaged 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds, shooting 33.8 from the floor, registering 21 assists, 24 steals, and eight blocks on the year. Before heading to the Big Ten, Watts played two seasons at Washington State, logging 17 starts in 23 appearances as a sophomore, shooting 38.9 percent and averaging 11.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals – he was the lone Wazzu returning letterman from the Cougars’ 2023-24 NCAA Tournament Second Round team that went 25-10.

Originally from West Seattle, Washington, Watts’ grandfather Slick Watts is a former NBA Seattle SuperSonics guard (1973-1978), who reached the 1978 NBA Finals for the first time in the organization’s history, while his father Donald Watts led the Pac-10 in three-point shooting (1998-99) as a Washington standout guard. After playing four years at West Seattle High School as a two-time All-Metro League honoree, Watts elected to complete a post-graduate year at South Kent School in Connecticut. Battling through injuries, the team went on to win the New England Prep School AAA Championship, earning Watts and the team a berth to the 2023 National Prep Championships.
