Rick Bowie named to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 40 Under 40

LEWISVILLE, Texas — UTSA offensive coordinator Rick Bowie has been chosen for this year’s Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 40 Under 40, as the publication recognized 40 of the rising stars in the coaching ranks in the state of Texas.

This marks the sixth consecutive year a UTSA coach has been honored, as Bowie joins, associate head coach/cornerbacks coach Nick Graham (2025) and former assistants Justin Burke (2024), Julian Griffin (2021), Joe Price (2023) and Will Stein (2022).

Named UTSA's offensive coordinator in January, Bowie is a coaching veteran for more than a decade with stints as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at three different schools.

Most recently, he helped guide Western Kentucky to a 9-4 campaign that was capped by a 27-16 victory over Southern Miss in the 2025 New Orleans Bowl. Under Bowie’s leadership, the Hilltoppers averaged more than 400 yards of offense per game, including 272.2 passing yards per contest, which led Conference USA and ranked in the top 20 nationally.

Bowie spent the 2024 season at Abilene Christian as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He tutored one of the top passing offenses in the FCS and helped the Wildcats to their first-ever national ranking at the Division I level, a United Athletic Conference Championship and a berth in the FCS playoffs for the first time in program history, where they beat Northern Arizona in the first round. His offense ranked fourth in the FCS in total offense at 469.6 yards per game and 16th nationally in scoring at 33.8 points per game.

Prior to his time at ACU, Bowie spent two seasons at Valdosta State as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Previously, he was the wide receivers coach (2021) and an offensive graduate assistant in 2019 and 2020 at Houston. He spent the 2018 season as an offensive graduate assistant at West Virginia. Prior to that, he was co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks/tight ends coach in 2016-17 at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. A former quarterback and wide receiver at Dickinson College, he got his coaching start as an intern at FIU in the summer of 2011 before becoming the tight ends/quarterbacks coach for four seasons (2012-15) at Gilman School in Baltimore.
