SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s golf program has placed a pair of student-athletes on the 2026 Academic All-District® Women’s At-Large Team, as Maria Bastarrica and Lauren Rios were honored on Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom.
This marks the second straight year that Bastarrica has earned a spot on the squad, while Rios garnered her first career honor.
Bastarrica boasts a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA as a double major in finance and economics. The San Sebastian, Spain, native recently wrapped up her junior season by competing in eight tournaments, including each of the last six on the schedule. She posted a 77.17 stroke average and a pair of par-or-better scorecards over 24 rounds. She logged her top 54-hole score of 4-over-par 220 (72-76-72) to grab a share of 34th at the MountainView Collegiate and capped the campaign by tying for 24th place at the American Conference Championship.
Rios carries a 3.66 GPA as a medical humanities/pre-med major. The Coppell, Texas, native recently announced that she is returning for one more season after wrapping up her best campaign as a Roadrunner in 2025-26. She collected her first career all-conference honor, pacing UTSA with a 74.3 stroke average in 33 rounds. She turned in 10 par-or-better scorecards and finished inside the top 10 twice, including a tie for seventh with a 220 (70-77-73) at the American Conference Championship.
