UTSA to face Memphis in American Softball Championship First Round

SAN ANTONIO—The No. 7 Seed UTSA softball team will open the 2026 American Softball Championship in the First Round as they take on No. 10 Seed Memphis on Wednesday with a noon start time at Joyner Family Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina, on the campus of East Carolina.

The Roadrunners (23-32, 11-16 American) enter the tournament with their highest seed since being slotted third in the 2015 CUSA Championship Tournament, and with the most league wins since 2022. Additionally, UTSA’s 7-0 start to league play was the best in program history, and 23 overall wins are the most since 2015.

Sophomore second baseman Sabrina Wick was named First-Team All-Conference ahead of the tournament, while junior outfielder Samantha Mundine and freshman pitcher Arlette Hernandez made the second team. Hernandez was joined by catcher Brookelynn Meador on the All-Freshman team.

The Tigers (18-38, 6-21 American) couldn’t overcome the Roadrunners in the regular season, with UTSA taking game one, 14-3, ahead of a 5-1 win in game two and a 6-3 victory in game three.

Mya Clark was named to the All-Conference first team as a DP/U/P, while Faith Brown was the DP/U/Non-P of the second team. The Tigers are ranked 19th in the NCAA with 17 triples on the season and are eighth with 50 sacrifice bunts. They topped the American with 86 stolen bases across the campaign. Individually, Deana Cunningham is seventh nationally with 140 assists.

Ariel Davis leads the way with a .387 batting average, and Brown is not far behind at .365, posting 41 RBIs and nine home runs. In the circle, Avery Stutts leads the way with a 7-11 record and 113.1 innings pitched.

The winner between the ‘Runners and the Tigers will advance to face the No. 6 Seed North Texas, with a 6 p.m. start time also on Wednesday. The Mean Green (27-27, 14-13 American) bounced back to take the regular season series from UTSA, first falling 5-2 before an 11-6 win in game two and a 6-4 victory in game three. UNT landed catcher Elizabeth Moffitt and outfielder Madison Conley on the All-Conference first team.

Moffitt topped the league with 12 baserunners caught stealing, and her .404 batting average was second. She owns a 1.224 OPS, and Conley joins her in the 1.000+ club at 1.304. Conley has launched a team-high 16 long balls, with Moffitt managing 12. North Texas leads the conference with 79 doubles on the campaign, a figure aided by Conley, who posted 14 for the third-most in the American.

Brittany Lewenski has made 38 pitching appearances, ranking 19th nationally, and she’s gone 14-14 with a 4.49 ERA. Also featuring for the Mean Green, Anneca Anderson is 12-8 with a 4.67 ERA.

From there, the victor will move into the quarterfinals, where the No. 4 Seed, Florida Atlantic, awaits on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT, ahead of the semifinals against No. 1 Seed South Florida on Friday at 12 p.m. The Championship game will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
