FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – It was a big day of outstanding performances from the UTSA track & field women’s Regional performers on Thursday in the opening day of women’s competition at the NCAA West First Round. At John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ida Breigan and Daisy Monie both earned their trip to the NCAA Championships, while Selma Ims and Shadae Findley moved one step closer with qualifications for Saturday’s quarterfinals.
The senior from Evergreen, Jamaica, Findley was the first finisher of the day for the Roadrunners, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the 400-meter with a 23rd-place opening round finish. Findley also snapped her own UTSA program record with a new career best clocking of 52.55.
The next event to go official was a big one for UTSA, as Fredrikstad, Norway junior Breigan landed a seventh-place 6.42 (21-0.75) leap on her opening attempt, punching her ticket to Eugene, Oregon for her second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Also in the big Roadrunner field for the event, junior Edlin Laur jumped 6.17m (20-3) for 28th and sophomore Nyariek Kur went 5.72m (18-9.25) for 43rd.
In short order, the senior thrower from Mission, Texas, Monie qualified for her first career nationals appearance in shot put while securing 11th place and the qualifying 16.54m (54-3.25) measurement on her final throw. Joining Monie in the shot, junior Nyaluet Diew threw 15.01m (49-3) for 30th place.
Wrapping up the night with one final Roadrunners advance, Sandnes, Norway sophomore Ims grabbed a qualifying time in the fifth heat of the 400-meter hurdles opening round, clocking in at 57.65 to move on to Saturday’s quarterfinal.
Men’s action will resume on Friday with the triple jump at 6 p.m. and the 400m second round at 6:50 p.m. On Saturday in the women’s final day of action, the discus leads off at 1 p.m., ahead of the high jump at 2 p.m., triple jump at 6 p.m., 400m second round at 6 p.m., 400m hurdles second round at 7:25 p.m. and concluding the meet on the 4x400m relay at 8:45 p.m.

Up next: Joining Breigan and Monie, any further individuals who advance through the West First Rounds will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for June 10-13 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
