LAST TIME OUT
On Tuesday, UTSA visited No. 4 Texas in its final road midweek bout of the year. The Roadrunners fell down 4-0 in the first inning before a pair of home runs put them in front 7-4 during the third frame. Texas clawed its way back to an 8-7 hole before mashing an eighth-inning grand slam. The blast gave the hosts the lead for good, solidifying a final score of 11-8 in favor of the Longhorns.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
This spring, UTSA has played 24 games at Roadrunner Field, boasting a 19-5 record. The Navy & Orange are 3-0 in home midweek games and have only dropped one series in San Antonio all season, falling to UT Arlington back in mid-March. In 10 of 24 home bouts, crowds above listed capacity (1,000) have been in attendance, helping drive a 10-2 record over the past 12 outings at the Bird Bath.
THE WONDER FROM DOWN UNDER
On Monday, Conor Myles was named to the American Conference Player of the Week Honorable Mention list. The Australian picked up his fifth such distinction this season, doing so for the third straight week. On Saturday at Memphis, Myles (9-1) dealt 6.0 innings, allowing just two runs with seven punchouts in another walk-free outing.
With another victory, Myles maintained a perfect 7-0 mark in league play. The Australian moved his season ERA to 2.48, including a remarkable 1.94 tally in American action. Over his last 27.0 innings, just three earned runs have come around to score.
THE BATS ARE HOT
UTSA ranks inside the nation’s top 30 with 534 hits (20th), a .427 on-base percentage (11th), 443 total runs scored (9th), 38 sacrifice flies (3rd), a .307 batting average (22nd) and 8.7 runs per game (12th).
In 20 of 51 games this season, UTSA has scored at least 10 runs. The group is averaging more than a score per frame, plating 443 runners in 436.1 innings of work. The Roadrunners have hit multiple home runs in a third of their outings, doing so 17 times this spring.
ABOUT THE BOBCATS
Texas State is under the direction of seventh-year Head Coach Steven Trout, who holds a record of 203-158 in his time with the program. The Bobcats are coming off a three-game sweep at Arkansas State that brought them within one game of .500 in Sun Belt play at 13-14. Back on Feb. 24, Texas State hosted UTSA in San Marcos, coming away with a 7-2 rivalry win. Trout’s squad tallied 14 strikeouts and walked just one Roadrunner while snapping a three-game losing skid against their I-35 rival.
UP NEXT
Following their matchup with the Bobcats, the ‘Runners will host UAB in a crucial three-game season finale. Both sides enter with a shot at the American Conference regular-season title as the series opens on Thursday at 6 p.m. All the action from Roadrunner Field will be streamed live on ESPN+ and available to follow via utsa.statbroadcast.com.
