SAN ANTONIO – On Monday, UTSA head women's basketball coach Karen Aston officially announced the signing of transfer center Emily Hunter, who will make her way to San Antonio after a freshman campaign at TCU.
Emily Hunter | 6-7 | C | Nolensville, Tennessee | TPLS Christian Academy | TCU
Hunter helped the Horned Frogs to the Elite Eight after appearing in seven games for the Horned Frogs, swatting shots against Tennessee State and Houston. A 122-39 victory over the Lady Tigers was the largest margin of victory in TCU history, and Hunter was a part of a 43-game home winning streak.
She was graded as a three-star recruit in the 2025 ESPN HoopGurlz rankings and graduated with a 3.7 GPA from TPLS Christian Academy (VA) early in January of 2025. With the Lions, she averaged 15.4 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks, posting a school record 47 points in a single game. There, she was First-Team All-District and NISAA End of Season Honorable Mention, while leading her team to a Regular Season District Championship.
Hunter spent her first two prep years at Nolensville High School in Tennessee, where she was crowned Most Improved Player as a sophomore. She spent her middle school years in Japan and originally wanted to become a professional soccer player.
At UTSA, Hunter will study English with a creative writing emphasis, aiming to publish her own novels following her basketball career.
She is the daughter of James and Cynthia Galloway-Hunter and has one brother, Elliott. Her father played basketball at Motlow State CC, and her mother ran cross country at UAH.
Hunter becomes the sixth member of the 2026 Signing Class, joining Kierra Merchant, Praise Egharevba, Bhret Clay, Rihyana Kinsey and Amaya McDonald.
Head Coach Karen Aston on Hunter:
"We are excited to announce the addition of Emily Hunter to our basketball family. Her uniqueness and skill set adds a different dimension to our front court. She has had the experience of being on two Elite Eight teams at TCU and has seen what competitors look like at a high level. Emily is here to further her development as a student-athlete and help our team continue its championship level. We are excited to coach her and watch her grow in our system."
