Multis open competition at 44 Farms

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UTSA track & field teams opened competition on Thursday at the 44 Farms Team Invitational, as Ryan Heeren, Edlin Laur and Sunniva Indahl kicked off the opening sections of the combined events at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

A freshman from Breda, Netherlands, Heeren recorded the best finishes of the day for the Roadrunners, logging third-place decathlon event marks in the long jump at 7.07m (23-2.5) and in the 400-meter at 49.62 seconds. Heeren also recorded a fourth-place 10.98 clocking in the 100-meter to start the event, going 10th in the high jump (1.84m/6-0.5) and 14th in the shot put (11.88m/38-11.85). After five events, Heeren sits in eighth with 3,787 points.

A junior from Tallinn, Estonia, Laur finished as high as seventh in the high jump (1.66m/5-5.25) and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.19), while registering 14th-place 200-meter (25.95) and 16-place shot put (10.99m/36-0.75) finishes. After four events, Laur is 10th at 3,154 points. Indahl’s top mark was 18th in the shot put at 10.82m (35-6).

Friday’s 44 Farms Invite multi-events resume at 10 a.m. with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault javelin and 1,500-meter. The heptathlon resumes at 11:30 a.m. on the long jump, javelin and 800-meter.

Field events kick off the main individual events at 10 a.m. as well on Friday, leading with discus and then hammer, followed by the long jump opening competition at 4 p.m. Running events are set for Friday evening with the 200-meter at 6 p.m., ahead of the 400-meter hurdles, 800-meter, 1,500-meter, and 5,000-meter races.

Saturday’s field events are a 10 a.m. start on javelin, then triple jump, shot put and high jump. Running events are again in the evening with the 4x100-meter relay at 6 p.m., followed by 1,500-meter final, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter, 100-meter, 800-meter invite, 3,000-meter steeplechase and concluding on the 4x400-meter relay with an 8:45 p.m. first gun.

Up next: Next week will see the Roadrunners leave the Lone Star State for the first time this season, heading to California for the 66th Annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., April 15-18. UTSA will see a 12-day gap after the westward swing before the regular season finale back in College Station.
