UTSA to compete this weekend in 44 Farms Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA track & field squads are back in action this weekend, traveling to College Station and E.B. Cushing Stadium for Texas A&M’s 44 Farms Team Invitational, running April 9-11.

The three-day meet will include opening competition in the multi-events and 30 Roadrunners (16 women, 14 men) will head to College Station to compete this weekend against athletes from Arkansas, Boise State, Cincinnati, East Texas A&M, High Point, Houston, HCU, Incarnate Word, Jacksonville College, Lamar, Michigan State, New Mexico, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, SMU, Texas, Tulane, UL-Monroe, UT-Arlington, Wichita State, Yale and host Texas A&M.

The Roadrunners are fresh off competition last weekend in Austin at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos. At the Texas Relays, UTSA secured 10 top-10 performances, including five medals and three event winners. Highlighting the UTSA performances, grad transfer Daisy Monie earned gold in both the shot put and discus, logging the school record in the discus and garnering American Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors. Junior Ida Breigan won the long jump while reaching the No. 2 mark in the national standings. Redshirt junior Jemuel Miller was also the men’s American Field Athlete of the Week, taking home triple jump bronze on the NCAA’s 11th-best measurement.

Competition at the 44 Farms Invitational will begin on Thursday with combined events. The women’s heptathlon kicks things off at noon with the 100-meter hurdles, followed by high jump, shot put and the 200-meter. The men’s decathlon is set for 12:30 p.m. on the 100-meter, followed by long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter.

Friday’s multi-events resume at 10 a.m. with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault javelin and 1,500-meter. The heptathlon resumes at 11:30 a.m. on the long jump, javelin and 800-meter. Field events open the main individual events at 10 a.m. Friday, discus and then hammer, with the long jump opening competition at 4 p.m. Running events are set for Friday evening with the 200-meter at 6 p.m., ahead of the 400-meter hurdles, 800-meter, 1,500-meter, and 5,000-meter races.

Saturday’s field events are a 10 a.m. start on javelin, then triple jump, shot put and high jump. Running events are again in the evening with the 4x100-meter relay at 6 p.m., followed by 1,500-meter final, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter, 100-meter, 800-meter invite, 3,000-meter steeplechase and concluding on the 4x400-meter relay with an 8:45 p.m. first gun.

Up next: Next week will see the Roadrunners leave the Lone Star State for the first time this season, heading to California for the 66th Annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., April 15-18. UTSA will see a 12-day gap after the westward swing before the regular season finale back in College Station.
