IRVING, Texas – For the second time this outdoor season, a UTSA track & field athlete has been selected for weekly conference honors. However, for the first time this year, it’s the Roadrunners making a sweep of the weekly field honors. Daisy Monie and Jemuel Miller were both named American Conference Field Athlete of the Week, officials from the league office announced on Tuesday.
Putting on a big show in the final day of competition at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Monie (Grad./Mission, Texas) earned double-gold in throwing events in Austin. Kicking off Saturday’s competition, Monie created a wide gap in the competition on her last discus throw of the final, hitting 51.83m (170-0) to move a full 1.96m ahead of the next performer – and delivering a new UTSA record with the No. 2 mark in the American standings. Returning for the shot put in the final UTSA event of the day, Monie’s fifth throw measured 15.94m (52-3.75) to edge out the win and take over as the top mark in the American – third-best throw in UTSA history.
Staying right on track with his first triple jump performance of the outdoor campaign, Miller (R-Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados) registered the eighth-best mark in the nation and rose to the top of the American standings with his first attempt of the finals, going 15.71m (51-6.5) for third place at the Texas Relays.
Up next for Monie, Miller and the Roadrunners, a trip this week to College Station to compete in Texas A&M’s 44 Farms Team Invitational at E.B. Cushing Stadium, April 9-11.
