SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel to Bryan, Texas, for the 22nd “Mo”Morial Invitational, which will be hosted by Texas A&M on Monday-Wednesday, April 6-8, at Traditions Club (par 72/6,406 yards).
Lauren Rios, Daniela Abonce, Victoria Schuldt, Maria Bastarrica, Kayla Black and Sydney Bisgrove (individual) will represent the Roadrunners in the 54-hole, stroke-play event that will serve as their final tune-up for the American Conference Championship on April 20-22 in Florida.
UTSA will compete against Abilene Christian, No. 22 Baylor, Charlotte, No. 34 Kansas, Lipscomb, No. 35 Missouri, Northern Colorado, Sam Houston, No. 3 Texas A&M, Texas State, Toledo, Tulsa, ULM and Western Kentucky.
The field will play 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day. Live scoring will be provided at scoreboard.clippd.com.
The Roadrunners have played in the “Mo”Morial Invitational five times previously with their last appearance coming in 2022 when they finished 11th behind a top-20 showing from Morgan Ellison. Their top finish in the event came in their first visit in 2010 when they placed fourth behind five top-30 finishes, including a tie for 30th by current UTSA head coach Summer Batiste.
UTSA is coming off a seventh-place effort at the MountainView Collegiate on March 20-22 in Arizona. Schuldt earned a share of 11th place with a 4-under-par 212, which was highlighted by a collegiate-best 5-under 67 in the first round, to notch her best finish and 54-hole total of her freshman campaign.
Schuldt ranks third on the team with a 75.52 stroke average in 27 rounds this season. A native of Hamburg, Germany, she owns seven par-or-better rounds, including a pair of sub-70 scores, to go with two top-20 finishes.
Rios paces the Roadrunners with a 74.07 scoring average in 27 rounds. The senior out of Coppell High School has logged nine par-or-better scorecards and has placed inside the top 25 four times, headlined by a tie for third at the Red Raider Invitational last fall.
Abonce stands second on the squad with a 74.44 average to go with nine par-or-better scores in 27 rounds. The senior from Veracruz, Mexico, boasts three top-15 performances, including a tie for fourth at the Sam Golden Invitational last September when she fired an 8-under 208 that featured a 7-under 65 and a 69.
Black carries a 75.54 stroke average through 24 rounds of her true freshman campaign. The Canadian has posted seven par-or-better scores, while her top 54-hole score was an even-par 216 (72-71-73) at the Sam Golden Invitational.
Bastarrica, a junior from Spain, owns a 77.11 average in 18 rounds with a pair of even-par scorecards posted in her last outing, a tie for 34th at the MountainView Collegiate.
Bisgrove has appeared in five tournaments and totes a 77.6 average and five par-or-better rounds during her sophomore season. A native of Canada, she registered her top 54-hole total and finish with a 4-under 212 at the Sam Golden Invitational.
