SAN MARCOS, Texas – UTSA Women’s Tennis visited Texas State on Friday for the Battle of I-35. The ‘Runners took the doubles point, but fell in four of five singles contests, dropping the match by a final score of 4-2. The loss dropped Ki Kroll’s bunch to 8-10 this spring with one match remaining in regular-season play.
Aoka Nagasawa and Akari Tomoyose got to work early with a 6-4 doubles victory on court three before each of the other two bouts went to tiebreakers at six all. Before Celine Absawi and Giuliana Giardina could wrap up on court two, the visitors had already clinched the doubles point. Natalia Castaneda Guerrero and Valeria Sanchez pulled out a 7-3 tiebreaker, securing an early 1-0 team lead over TXST.
In singles action, the hosts ripped off two quick victories before Natalia Castaneda Guerrero tied up the match. The sophomore cruised 6-2, 6-0 to knot the affair at 2-2. However, the Bobcats responded with another two wins in singles play, taking a 4-2 victory to remain undefeated at home this season.
