LAST TIME OUT

UTSA hosted Charlotte over the weekend, taking the first two against the 49ers. In both victories, the hosts needed just two pitchers. Meanwhile, the bats stayed hot to the tune of at least a dozen hits in each game across a 24-run weekend. With the series win, the Navy & Orange secured their 16th straight in American Conference play and extended their streak that dates back to 2024. The ‘Runners were slated to visit No. 7 Texas A&M on Tuesday, but the contest was canceled due to inclement weather in College Station.

TWO FOR DREW

On Monday, senior Drew Detlefsen was named American Conference Player of the Week. The left fielder picked up his second such honor of 2026 after a week with eight hits and seven runs scored on a .381 batting average. He became the first league member to win the award twice this spring.

WE’RE NOT IN KANSAS TEXAS ANYMORE

UTSA recently wrapped up its only two-week stretch of back-to-back home conference series last weekend. Sunday’s game against Charlotte was UTSA’s 16th straight in Texas. After Tuesday’s clash in College Station was canceled, the ‘Runners are set for their first trip outside of the state in more than a month (March 20-22 at Florida Atlantic).

IT’S (NOT) LONELY AT THE TOP

With a 10-5 record in American play, UTSA recently climbed into a tie alongside UAB for first place. East Carolina still lurks just one game back at 9-6 with Wichita State sitting at 8-7. The Blazers and ‘Runners will meet in the final week of the regular season at Roadrunner Field.

LOOKIN’ FINE, 99

Monday marked the second straight week with Connor Kelley on the American Conference Player of the Week Honorable Mention list. The junior has now tossed 20.1 straight innings without an earned run. Last time out, he extended his scoreless streak to eight straight appearances in the win on Friday over Charlotte with 4.1 shutout frames out of the bullpen.

ABOUT THE GREEN WAVE

Tulane is under the direction of fifth-year Head Coach Jay Uhlman, who holds a 112-118 record in his time with the program. The Green Wave enter the weekend at 7-8 in American play, sitting amid a four-way tie for fifth place alongside South Florida, Rice and Memphis. The squad is 14-6 at home this year, taking two of three from East Carolina during their last series in the Big Easy. A week ago, Florida Atlantic took the series victory out east in a high-scoring three-game set.

UP NEXT

Next week, UTSA returns to San Antonio for four games at home. Before hosting Wichita State over the weekend, the ‘Runners will first host Incarnate Word in an intracity matchup. First pitch against the Cardinals is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28. All the action from Roadrunner Field will be streamed live on ESPN+ and available to follow via utsa.statbroadcast.com.
