UTSA third, Schuldt sixth following second round of American Conference Championship

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — UTSA is in third place and Victoria Schuldt is tied for sixth after the second round of the American Conference Championship at Southern Hills Plantation Club (par 72/6,289 yards).

Schuldt carded a 1-over-par 73 to pace the Roadrunners on Tuesday, putting her in position for her best finish of the season and slotting UTSA into sole possession of third in the 11-team race.

The Roadrunners followed an even-par 288 on Monday with a 301 in round two, dropping to third (589) behind day-two leader and 50th-ranked Tulsa (568) and Charlotte (583). UTSA has a four-shot advantage over Florida Atlantic (593) and sits in front of East Carolina (594), South Florida (595), Tulane (596), North Texas (60), Wichita State (604), Memphis (610) and UAB (612).

Schuldt’s 73 featured her second eagle of the week as well as a pair of birdies. The true freshman from Germany wrote down a three on the 490-yard, par-5 12th for the second straight day. She also circled her number on the 476-yard, par-4 seventh and on the 498-yard, par-5 16th. She currently is the only player in the field to record two eagles and she has played the par fives at 5-under par through 36 holes.

Schuldt, who opened the event with a 72 on Monday, is part of a three-way tie for sixth at 1-over 145 with 18 holes remaining. She is two strokes out of the top five in the individual race led by Charlotte’s Pinky Chaisilprungruang (-6).

Lauren Rios is two shots behind Schuldt in a deadlock for 11th at 3-over 147. The senior from Coppell, Texas, followed a 2-under 70 with a 77 that included 14 of her team-high 28 pars.

Daniela Abonce and Maria Bastarrica both have a share of 23rd at 5-over 149. After opening with an even-par scorecard, Abonce carded a 77 that featured a trio of birdies. Bastarrica posted a 75 that also included three birdies to follow Monday’s 74.

Kayla Black turned in a 76 that was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14-15, good for a two-shot improvement from her opening-round 78. The freshman from Canada is tied for 38th (+10).

The final round is slated for Wednesday and the Roadrunners will tee off from No. 1 beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT.
