SAN ANTONIO– The No. 11 seed UTSA men’s tennis team will open the 2026 American Men’s Tennis Championship on Thursday, with a 2 p.m. bout against the host-school and No. 6 seed Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The winner between the Roadrunners (5-14) and Golden Hurricane (15-12) will advance to face No. 3 seed Memphis in the quarterfinals on Friday at 2 p.m.
UTSA carries momentum into the event after picking up back-to-back wins to close out the regular season. The ‘Runners first swept Georgia State, 4-0, before topping UAB, 4-2.
Sophomore Enzo Vargas delivered a standout performance, beating the Panthers’ Arthur Attrill in the second flight, 7-5, 6-2, to clinch the match for UTSA ahead of a 6-4, 3-0 win against Ondrej Valek, via retirement in the top flight.
For Tulsa, Nikita Volonski leads the way with 10 wins on the campaign, while Victor Tosetto has gone 9-4. Both Timothy Carlsson Seger and Taco Takeshi own a 9-3 record. The duo of Carlsson Seger and Volonski is 14-6 in doubles action, and Tosetto and Gus Tettamble are not far behind at 12-7.
