BIRMINGHAM, Ala— The UTSA men’s tennis team swept Georgia Southern on Friday, 4-0, in a neutral-site match at the UAB Tennis Courts.
The Roadrunners (4-14) topped the Panthers (5-16), as sophomore Ben Chetewy Ungar and freshman Maximilian Ontiveros opened up doubles play with a 6-2 win over Cam Atlamis and Arthur Attrill, ahead of a 6-2 victory for sophomore Oskar Grzegorzewski and newcomer Constantin Radu against Sota Minami and Ethan Vander Auwera.
In singles play, freshman Timeo Bretin won his first set, 7-5, before claiming victory via retirement, and freshman Yonatan Sagiv had UTSA win away from the match win thanks to a 6-2, 6-2 thrashing of Vander Auwera. Vargas then sealed the deal, besting Attrill, 7-5, 6-2.
UTSA will now close out the regular season on Saturday, as they are set to face UAB at 1 p.m. in Birmingham.
