SAN ANTONIO— The UTSA softball team suffered an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Texas State on Tuesday in nonconference action at Roadrunner Field.
The Roadrunners (19-19) fell to the Bobcats (23-15), as Maddy Azua (15-9) picked up the win and Reagan Stoudt (4-6) was tagged with the loss.
At the plate, junior Samantha Mundine scored UTSA’s lone run, while senior Madison Hornback picked up an RBI. Additionally, six different Roadrunners reached base safely in the effort.
Texas State opened things up with a leadoff home run, and UTSA replied in the second as Mundine singled, before coming around and scoring on Hornback’s RBI groundout.
TXST then added two more in the third off a longball, with three runs following in the fourth and two more in the fifth. UTSA was unable to mount a comeback, falling 8-1.
The Roadrunners will next host South Florida in a three-game American Conference series beginning on Thursday at Roadrunner Field.
