Meador goes yard as ‘Runners fall to Bulls

SAN ANTONIO— Despite a freshman Brookelynn Meador home run, the UTSA softball team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of South Florida on Thursday in an American Conference series opener at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners (19-20, 7-6 American) fell to the Bulls (28-11, 10-3 American), as freshman Arlette Hernandez (11-8) was pegged with the loss after tossing a complete game with seven strikeouts, while Anne Long (10-3).

South Florida struck first with a solo shot in the top of the fourth, putting them in front. UTSA replied in the home half, as Meador launched a long ball over the wall in left to equalize.

A later two-run home run put USF up 3-1 in the fifth, and from there, neither team was able to plate another run, cementing the 3-1 South Florida victory.

The Roadrunners and Bulls will meet again on Friday, as they wrap up the series with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
