LAS CRUCES, N.M. – UTSA Baseball squared off with New Mexico State for the second of a three-game road set on Saturday. Conor Myles and Ryan Self combined for a shutout on the mound as the Roadrunners trounced the Aggies by a final score of 13-0 in seven innings. With the win, UTSA tied its best start through 14 games at 13-1, while Pat Hallmark secured his 200th victory at the helm for the Navy & Orange.
FIRST INNING
Christian Hallmark made his first appearance in the leadoff spot, drawing a walk before advancing on a wild pitch. Lane Haworth then drove in the game’s first run with one of his four hits on the evening. After Josh Arquette reached safely, Jacob Silva was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Diego Diaz fought his way to a five-pitch walk, plating Arquette for the second score of the game. In the home half, Conor Myles earned the nod on the mound, opening what proved to be yet another dominant outing with a 1-2-3 first frame.
THIRD INNING
Haworth led things off with another single before Silva was plunked yet again, but the opportunity came up fruitless on a double play. Meanwhile, NM State picked up its first hit for one of just two Myles allowed all night. A walk followed shortly after, but the hosts remained unable to crack the scoreboard.
FIFTH INNING
Two doubles and three Roadrunner singles were tallied before a single out was recorded, with three hits coming on the first pitch. Andrew Stucky then reached on a hard-hit ball to third, already scoring the fourth run of the frame with still no outs. Diego Diaz then put a ground ball in play, granting the Aggies their first retired batter while allowing yet another score. A pinch-hitting Caden Miller then doubled to left field, pushing two ‘Runners to scoring position. A substituting Jordan Ballin brought the final runs of the inning across with a well-placed single. His knock plated the sixth and seventh Roadrunners of the fifth as the visitors blew the game open at 9-0. A pair of strikeouts for Myles wrapped up his final complete inning of work as the Aggies remained with just two hits through five.
SIXTH INNING
A two-base error pushed Haworth in scoring position quickly, setting up a ground ball and sacrifice fly to expand the lead to 10-0. Just two pitches later, Stucky belted one deep over the wall in left for a solo home run. Connor Myles exited the mound after his season-high eighth strikeout, making way for freshman Ryan Self, who bounced back from an early double and headed to the seventh still up 11-0.
SEVENTH INNING
A five-pitch walk to Ballin set up Drew Detlefsen with one on and one away after a fielder’s choice. The senior belted his first home run of the weekend and his team-high fifth on the year, scoring the game’s final two runs to pull ahead 13-0. Aside from a two-out walk, Self struck out the other three Aggies in the frame, ending the contest in just two hours and 16 minutes.
