SAN ANTONIO—The UTSA softball team is set to open American Conference play on Friday, visiting Tulsa for a three-game series at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
The Roadrunners (11-11) are fresh off a 12-5 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi that featured a grand slam by redshirt sophomore Makayla Madrid. Sophomore Sabrina Wick was 4-for-4 on the afternoon, while five different squad members drove in runs. Additionally, freshman Arlette Hernandez carries momentum into conference play, boasting a 6-3 record in the circle and serving as the reigning American Pitcher of the Week.
The Golden Hurricane (8-11) recently fell to Central Arkansas, 3-2, after picking up wins over Southeast Missouri State and South Dakota State at the Tulsa Invitational. Faith Russell leads the way at the plate with a .375 batting average, and Amber Turner tops the team with 12 RBIs. Nobody has launched softball out of the park more than Maci Cole, who boasts three home runs on the season.
The pitching staff owns a 4.50 ERA, with both Brinly Maples and Maura Moore logging multiple wins across the campaign. Moore has fanned 52 and owns a team-high three wins, while Maples holds the best ERA at 3.25.
