SAN ANTONIO— The UTSA men’s tennis team swept UT Arlington on Thursday, 7-0, picking up its first victory of the season.
The Roadrunners (1-9) topped the Mavericks (0-8), as sophomore Oskar Grzegorzewski and freshman Constantin Radu defeated Yazid Lahjomri and Ellison Minnaa, 7-6 (7-3) to swipe the double point, after Saúl Berdullas Calviño and Finbar McGarvery bested sophomore Enzo Vargas and newcomer Timeo Bretin, 6-3
In singles play, freshman Maximilian Ontiveros helped the squad to a 3-0 advantage with a 7-5, 6-1 defeat of Novak Ivanovic, and Vargas topped Berdullas Calviño, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the match. From there, sophomore Ben Chetewy Ungar took down Ellison Minnaar, 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 2-0 (by default), and Grzegorzewski outlasted Yazid Lahjormi, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Bretin secured the sweep for the squad, via a 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) comeback victory.
UTSA will remain in San Antonio, where they’ll host crosstown rival UIW on Saturday at 11 a.m., in what will represent the squad's Senior Day.
