LAST TIME OUT
The ‘Runners took down Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for their first true road win of the season. UTSA fell down early with a three-run first inning from the hosts. Christian Hallmark’s go-ahead home run coupled with elite showings from Mike DeBattista and Sam Simmons to close out the final 6.2 innings on the mound powered an eventual comeback from the Navy & Orange. The 7-5 victory was UTSA’s fourth in a row, bumping the group to 11-1 on the season.
EXTRA MEANING TO THE WEEKEND
Seventh-year assistant coach Ryan Aguayo graduated from NM State in 2011 after two seasons with the program. The shortstop started 118 games as an Aggie, earning Second Team All-WAC and Academic All-WAC selections in 2010. Now, the first-base coach hopes to guide his Roadrunners to victory on the same field he used to call home.
THIS GUY MASHES
Left fielder Drew Detlefsen wowed at the plate last week (Feb. 24-March 1), making four appearances in the starting lineup as UTSA posted a 3-1 mark that included an undefeated stay at the BRUCE BOLT College Classic. The senior tallied three home runs, belting two in Saturday's 16-10 upset of No. 9 Coastal Carolina. For the week, Detlefsen batted .444, tallying eight hits and being struck by two pitches to amass an OPS of 1.500. Four extra-base hits helped drive in six runs while scoring a half dozen of his own. For his efforts, Detlefsen was named to the American Conference Player of the Week Honorable Mention list.
The second-year Roadrunner now holds a .365 batting average on the year alongside an OPS of 1.085. He paces the team in home runs (four), total bases (34), extra-base hits (seven) and runs scored (18), while sitting second on the club leaderboard in hits (19) and RBIs (16).
‘RUNNERS IN THE POLLS
On Monday, D1Baseball released its updated top-25 list after the first three weeks of the spring. UTSA snuck in the final spot, earning a No. 25 ranking from the outlet following a 3-0 weekend in Houston. Perfect Game USA also ranked the Roadrunners, doing so for the second straight week with a bump up to No. 18. At the end of the 2025 campaign, the ‘Runners earned a No. 13 distinction in the D1Baseball poll, solidifying the highest mark in program history.
HOT CORNER, HOTTER BAT
Josh Arquette has undertaken third base duties in all 12 contests this season, making an immediate impact in his first campaign with the program. The Panola JC transfer was named to the American Conference Player of the Week Honorable Mention list after an opening-weekend sweep of South Dakota State in which he racked up seven hits, two doubles and a home run for a 2.129 OPS.
This season, Arquette is one of four Roadrunners to start every contest. At third base, his 20 assists rank second only to Diego Diaz. His 14 hits have driven in a team-high 17 RBIs, with seven extra-base knocks vaulting his OPS to .995. On Saturday, Arquette launched a grand slam into the Crawford Boxes in Daikin Park as part of a 16-10 win over No. 9 Coastal Carolina.
TAKE ‘EM WHERE YOU CAN GET ‘EM
This year, UTSA has already been hit by 28 pitches, ranking 28th in the nation and highest in the conference. The squad has also drawn 71 walks through 12 games in 2026, totaling an average of 8.2 free bases per game. In all but one outing this season, the Roadrunners have drawn at least four bases on balls.
FLY LIKE DOVE
Junior Kendall Dove has been simply shutting the opposition down early in 2026. The second-year Roadrunner has made three appearances on the mound, tallying 13.1 innings of work with a 2.70 ERA. Dove is now 2-0 on the season, striking out 12 batters and allowing just four earned runs. Batters are hitting .226 and still have yet to record a home run across his trio of weekend starts.
MILLER TIME
Starting all 12 games at first base this season has been sophomore Caden Miller. The second-year Roadrunner is batting .317 to open the campaign, already notching 13 hits, including seven for extra bases. He has driven in 13 runs while scoring 17 of his own, due in part to his three stolen bases and team-high 12 walks drawn. His four-hit weekend in Houston was highlighted by a three-run blast against Baylor on Sunday, securing his second straight three-RBI day.
A GRAND WEEK
Christian Hallmark recently wrapped up an exceptional four games at the plate, guiding his squad to a record-breaking week (Feb. 17-22). For his efforts, the first-year Roadrunner was named American Conference Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 23.
The center fielder started all four contests, posting five hits and drawing five walks for an on-base percentage of .647. His base knocks drove in seven runs, highlighted by a grand slam against the Flames on Feb. 17 that boosted his weekly OPS to 1.374. He scored three runs of his own as UTSA outpaced its opposition by a 38-22 margin over four games. Elsewhere, Hallmark racked up two more stolen bases on as many attempts, adding 11 putouts without an error.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
NM State is under the direction of third-year Head Coach Jake Angier, who holds a 54-68 record with the program. The Aggies have made the eight-team Conference USA Championship in each of their first two seasons as league members, but were the first team bounced from the tournament in both 2024 and 2025. Last year, the squad finished 23-33 with a record of 11-15 in CUSA play. This season’s unit started slow, but has now won five in a row and climbed back to .500, most recently handing then-undefeated rival New Mexico its first loss on Tuesday in Las Cruces.
UP NEXT
Following their series with the Aggies, the Roadrunners will trek east to Lubbock, Texas, for a two-game midweek clash at Texas Tech. The Red Raiders (7-4) will host the back-to-back 6 p.m. first pitches from Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ and available to follow via utsa.statbroadcast.com.
