LAST TIME OUT

Over the weekend, UTSA hosted East Carolina for a series featuring the top two favorites from the American Conference Preseason Poll. The Pirates took the opener, but the hosts heated up at the plate on Saturday and Sunday. After tallying a 6-1 win to even the series in game two, the ‘Runners came back in the finale for an extra-inning walk-off classic by a score of 8-7. Caden Miller ripped a bases-loaded single through the right side for his side’s 20th win of the season, clinching UTSA’s 13th consecutive regular-season series victory in American play.

FLOODING THE BIRD BATH

The Navy & Orange faithful have made their support clear at Roadrunner Field as of late. UTSA has set single-series attendance records in three straight home weekends, establishing new highs against Dallas Baptist (3,048), UT Arlington (3,182) and East Carolina (3,371).

The series win over the Pirates was the first in the ballpark’s 34-year history with an average attendance over 1,100 per game. In half of their home contests this season (seven of 14), the Roadrunners have played in front of crowds larger than listed capacity (1,000).

HOMECOMING WEEK

Head Coach Pat Hallmark is visiting both of his old stomping grounds this week. The Rice graduate (2002) and former Incarnate Word coach (2018-19) will return to Sullivan Field and Reckling Park looking to topple the programs he used to once lead.

THE BATS ARE HOT

UTSA ranks inside the nation’s top 30 with 301 hits (20th), a .314 batting average (28th), a .428 on-base percentage (22nd), 254 total runs scored (14th), 21 sacrifice flies (fifth) and 9.1 runs per game (16th).

In 14 of 28 games this season, UTSA has scored at least 10 runs. The group is averaging 1.1 scores per frame, plating 254 runners in 237.1 innings of work. The Roadrunners have hit multiple home runs in nearly half of their outings, doing so 11 times this spring.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS

Incarnate Word is under the direction of first-year Head Coach Nick Zaleski, who holds a 14-14 record in his first career stop. In 2013, Zaleski served as a volunteer assistant on the Corvallis Regional representative squad. The Cardinals are coming off a series loss at Lamar, dropping two of three in Beaumont.

UIW took its only matchup against UTSA in 2025, escaping Roadrunner Field with a win by a score of 8-5. The in-city rivalry has stood since the Roadrunners’ first year of existence in 1992, with the Navy & Orange taking 20 of 33 all-time meetings. This year’s Cardinal squad has nearly matched its win total from a year ago (17-33), already doubling its victories in conference play from three to six.

UP NEXT

UTSA’s five-day stretch with four road games rolls on in Houston. The ‘Runners will head to Rice for a Thursday-Saturday series at Reckling Park as Pat Hallmark visits his alma mater and old stomping grounds for a conference matchup. All the action from Bayou City will be streamed live on ESPN+ and available to follow via utsa.statbroadcast.com.
