Men’s Tennis to take on No. 65 Rice, Charlotte over the weekend

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s tennis team will head to Charlotte, North Carolina, this weekend, as they’ll first face Rice in a neutral site bout on Saturday, ahead of a Sunday match with Charlotte at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

The Roadrunners (3-12) will look to snap a two-match skid, after falling to Abilene Christian and No. 75 Texas Tech last time out.

Sophomore Oskar Grzegorzewski continues to pace the Roadrunners with six singles wins on the campaign, and freshman Maximilian Ontiveros is not far behind with five. Classmate Constantin Radu and newcomer Timeo Bretin, and sophomore Ben Chetewy Ungar each have four across the campaign. In doubles play, Ontiveros and Chetewy Ungar lead the way with three victories.

The Owls (9-6) have been dominant as of late, entering the weekend on a five-match winning streak. Rice last fell to No. 8 Baylor, 4-3, on March 2.

Petro Kuzmenok tops the team with a 16-6 record in singles action, as Gabriel Porras, Kabeer Kapasi, and Noey Do all join him in posting double-digit wins.

Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro have also gone 15-4 in doubles, while Yair Sarouk and Kapasi are 11-8.

The 49ers (11-5) took down No. 68 Liberty in their last match, 6-1, and will face the Owls on Friday before battling the Roadrunners on Sunday.

For Charlotte, Ivan Dreycopp, Massimo Pizzigoni, and Mortiz Muenster each have 13 singles victories, while Andres Medus and Vasco Prata both have 12.  Dreycopp and Prata have been the most potent doubles pair, with a 13-10 mark.
