SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. — Led by Victoria Schuldt’s season-best finish, UTSA placed seventh at the MountainView Collegiate, which wrapped up Sunday at The Preserve Golf Club (par 72/6,405 yards).
Schuldt earned a share of 11th place with a 4-under-par 212 — the best 54-hole total of her freshman campaign — to guide the Roadrunners to their sixth top-10 team showing of the season.
A native of Hamburg, Germany, Schuldt opened her week by matching the UTSA freshman record for low score with a 5-under-par 67 before recording a 73 on Saturday followed by an even-par 72 in today’s final round. Starting the final day on No. 4, she countered a bogey on the sixth hole with her first of two birdies on the day, a four on the 520-yard eighth. She then moved to 1-under par with a four on the 592-yard 16th before dropping a shot on the 17th and then recording four pars to close out her weekend. She bettered her previous top finish and 54-hole tally of 15th and 216 posted at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate last fall.
After opening with a 5-under 283 on Friday, UTSA registered its second straight 292 to end up with sole possession of seventh at 3-over 867, three shots ahead of No. 32 Houston and only three strokes behind No. 33 Kansas State.
Lauren Rios was the second highest-finishing Roadrunner, tying for 31st with a 3-over 219. The Coppell, Texas, native opened with a 74-72—146 before finishing the weekend with a 73 that featured birdies on the 501-yard, par-5 10th for the second straight day and on the 144-yard, par-3 14th holes.
Maria Bastarrica and Daniela Abonce ended up as part of a 10-way tie for 34th at 4-over 220.
Bastarrica, a junior from Spain, logged her second even-par scorecard of the event sandwiched around a 76. Her final round included a trio of birdies with two coming as part of a 2-under 34 on the front side of the course.
Abonce, a senior out of Mexico, opened the weekend with back-to-back 1-under 71s before settling for a 78 on Sunday.
Kayla Black rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 56th with a 224 (73-76-75).
No. 25 Iowa State claimed the team title with an 844, followed by Texas Tech (848), Iowa (857), North Texas (859) and No. 34 Missouri (862).
Texas Tech’s Denise Vodickova won the individual crown with a 9-under 207 (71-67-69).
