LAST TIME OUT

The ‘Runners visited Houston Christian on Tuesday for their fourth straight midweek road trip. The hosts pulled ahead by seven on two separate occasions, but UTSA slowly clawed its way back into the fight. Drew Detlefsen became the first Roadrunner to tally five hits in a single game this season, loading the bases in the ninth with his final knock. A sacrifice fly cut the deficit to one, but the Huskies held on for a 12-11 victory.

THE BATS ARE HOT

UTSA ranks inside the nation’s top 20 with a .334 batting average (15th), 247 hits (sixth), 209 runs (ninth), 10.0 runs scored per game (12th), a .445 on-base percentage (13th) and a .544 slugging percentage (17th).

In 13 of 21 games this season, UTSA has scored at least 10 runs. The group is averaging nearly 1.2 scores per frame, plating 209 runners in 178 innings of work. UTSA has hit multiple home runs in nearly half of its outings, doing so 10 times this spring.

TAKE ‘EM WHERE YOU CAN GET ‘EM

This year, UTSA has drawn 124 walks through 21 games. While also being hit by 37 pitches, the squad is totaling an average of 7.7 free bases per night. The Roadrunners have only failed to draw four bases on balls four times this year. The group is 1-3 in such games and 14-3 when tallying at least four walks.

FROM THE ORANGE STATE

Senior Broc Parmer is the lone member of the Roadrunner roster from Florida. The catcher returns to his home state this weekend, where he graduated from Pace High School in Pace, located 621 miles north of FAU in the state’s panhandle.

ABOUT THE OWLS

FAU is under the direction of 18th-year Head Coach John McCormack, who boasts a 590-380-2 record in his time with the program. Last season, the Owls finished 37-21 with a 15-12 mark in American play, taking 25 of 33 contests at home.

The 2025 bunch was swept by UTSA in San Antonio by a combined score of 24-16. In May, the Owls’ season came to a close at the hands of the Roadrunners, suffering their second loss at the conference tournament by a 6-3 margin. This year’s group is out to a 13-8 start, most recently taking two of three from UMBC before falling to FGCU on Tuesday.

UP NEXT

After its series at FAU, UTSA will return home for a four-game week at Roadrunner Field. On Tuesday, the Navy & Orange host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the two sides’ second matchup this month. Then, the American Conference’s top two preseason seeds clash as East Carolina rolls in for a three-game set. All the action from San Antonio will be streamed live on ESPN+ and available to follow via utsa.statbroadcast.com.
