Third Straight Statement Win Comes Over Baylor

HOUSTON – On Sunday, UTSA Baseball wrapped up its stay at the BRUCE BOLT College Classic against Baylor of the Big 12. The ‘Runners jumped out to a large early lead and never looked back as they concluded a perfect 3-0 stay at the tournament. Starter Conor Myles wowed on the mound as UTSA improved to 10-1 and notched its second Power Four victory of the season.

FIRST INNING

Graduate left-handed pitcher Conor Myles took to the mound for his first start of 2026 on Sunday. A leadoff hit got a baserunner on, eventually making his way to third on a pair of ground balls, but the inning ended without a score.

SECOND INNING

A one-out Jacob Silva double to the gap in right was followed up by an infield single just one pitch later from Diego Diaz. When Jordan Ballin later stepped up to the plate with two away, the sophomore was hit by a 3-2 offering to load the bases. A wild pitch to Caden Miller sent Silva 90 feet home for the game’s first run while driving the count to 3-2. On the payoff pitch, the first baseman found the barrel, belting one to the right-field bleachers for a three-run shot. When the dust settled, the ‘Runners held an early edge of 4-0

THIRD INNING

In just four pitches, UTSA racked up a single and two outs, setting up starting catcher Jacob Silva yet again. The sophomore sent a double just fair down the left field line and bouncing off the wall into fair play, granting Josh Arquette enough time to score all the way from first. Just two offerings later, Diego Diaz doubled in similar fashion, plating Silva and pushing his side ahead 6-0. Meanwhile, Myles continued his stretch of 10 straight batters to not record a hit, holding Baylor scoreless heading into the fourth.

FOURTH INNING

Jordan Ballin’s first base knock of the day prompted a pitching change for Baylor. Caden Miller battled out a walk before Drew Detlefsen made a splash with a hard-hit first-pitch double off the wall in right-center field. The next offering was to Lane Haworth, who tallied a sacrifice fly with a deep out to left that scored Miller for the Roadrunners’ eighth run of the night. In the home half, Myles needed just eight pitches to send his offense back out.

FIFTH INNING

A first-pitch bunt single put Christian Hallmark aboard to lead things off in the middle frame. A walk and a fielder’s choice left the center fielder on third with one away, setting up Jordan Ballin’s sacrifice fly to build a 9-0 advantage. In the bottom half, Myles wrapped up his exceptional day with three straight retired batters, clinching the final out of his evening on a swinging strikeout.

SIXTH INNING

A single and a hit batter gave UTSA life, but three straight strikeouts kept the runners at bay. Gunnar Brown then took to the mound for the ‘Runners, relieving Myles after five stellar innings. A pair of quick outs preluded a solo home run that got Baylor on the board, cueing the game’s final third with a 9-1 tally.

SEVENTH INNING

A Bear was struck by a pitch before five of the next six batters recorded singles. Three of the knocks drove in runs, cutting further into the deficit as the margin sat at five with two innings remaining.

EIGHTH INNING

Walks from Caden Miller and Lane Haworth sandwiched a Drew Detlefsen single to load the bases with no outs. A pitching change sparked two straight strikeouts, sending Silva back to the plate with three teammates aboard. The catcher ripped one to left field, scoring a pair of teammates to rip the game back open at 11-4.

The Bears notched a double before being hit and forcing Pat Hallmark to swap pitchers. Christopher Gutierrez produced a groundout in two pitches, but was then relieved by James Hubbard on the bump. A pair of RBI singles ensued, but Hubbard exited the inning still holding a five-run edge (11-6).

NINTH INNING

After a routine top half, Hubbard returned to the mound needing three outs to secure a perfect weekend. The senior used just six pitches to retire the side in order, helped by Jordan Ballin to cap off the game with a groundout to the shortstop.
