SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue a busy week with a second tournament on the docket, as the Roadrunners will travel to Arizona for the MountainView Collegiate co-hosted by Kansas State and Missouri on Friday-Sunday, March 20-22, at The Preserve Golf Club in Saddlebrooke.
UTSA’s lineup will feature Lauren Rios, Victoria Schuldt, Daniela Abonce, Kayla Black and Maria Bastarrica.
The Roadrunners will compete against Cincinnati, Colorado State, No. 32 Houston, Iowa, No. 25 Iowa State, No. 33 Kansas State, Long Beach State, Marshall, No. 34 Missouri, Nebraska, North Texas, San Diego State, Texas Tech, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
The field will play 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT Friday and Saturday followed by the final round with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start Sunday. Live scoring will be provided at http://scoreboard.clippd.com/.
The Roadrunners have played in the MountainView Collegiate one time previously, finishing sixth out of 15 teams in 2016 when the tournament was held at MountainView Golf Club in Tucson.
UTSA also has appeared in three other regular season tournaments in the Grand Canyon State.
In 2010, current head coach and former UTSA student-athlete Summer Batiste finished as the Northern Migration Invitational runner-up with a 73-70-71—214 to guide the Roadrunners to the team title in Florence, which is about one hour southeast of Phoenix.
UTSA was a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in 2012-13 and finished fourth at the conference tournament that spring, which was contested at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa.
Last March, the Roadrunners placed seventh at the Clover Cup in Litchfield Park, just west of Phoenix, behind a 20th-place showing from Abonce.
Additionally, Camryn Carreon advanced to back-to-back NCAA Championships as an individual in 2022 and 2023, both of which were held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale.
UTSA is coming off a ninth-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Invitational on Monday-Tuesday in Austin. Rios, who sports a 74.21 stroke average this season, led the way by tying for 20th place behind a 1-under-par 71 in the final round.
