SAN ANTONIO— The UTSA men’s tennis team secured a 4-0 victory over Southern Miss on Tuesday at the UTSA Tennis Center, for a win on back-to-back days.
The Roadrunners (3-10) bested the Golden Eagles (7-6), first taking the doubles point as sophomore Oskar Grzegorzewski and freshman Constantin Radu bested Ollie Noltorp and Ritabrata Sarkar, 6-2, ahead of a 6-2 win for sophomore Enzo Vargas, and freshman Timeo Bretin topped Jose Marariu and Jay Temming, 6-3. Rounding out doubles action, sophomore Ben Chetewy Ungar and freshman Maximilian Ontiveros beat Saheb Sodhi and Eric Perkowski, 6-4.
Shortly after, Bretin defeated Perkowski, 6-3, 6-1 to go up 2-0, and Ontiveros downed Matei Varnanciu, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, putting UTSA one away from clinching. Radu sealed the deal with a 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 win over Noltorp, cementing the 4-0 sweep.
UTSA will look to keep the momentum going, next facing Abilene Christian on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Judi and Cecil Eager Tennis Pavilion.
