SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off winning the Military City Collegiate last week at TPC San Antonio, UTSA will hit the road to Lake Charles, Louisiana, to play in the Golden Nugget Invitational, which will be hosted by Lamar at The Country Club at The Golden Nugget (par 72/7,000 yards).

The Roadrunners’ lineup will include Joshua Hong, Francisco Solorza, Sam Acharya, Logan Vargas and Brayden Bare while David Martinez and Jacob King will compete as individuals.

UTSA will face Abilene Christian, Houston, Lamar, Northern Colorado, Oakland, Tarleton, Troy, ULM, USC Upstate and Wichita State in the 54-hole, stroke-play event.

The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start slated for each day. Live scoring will be provided at scoreboard.clippd.com.

The Roadrunners are coming off their first team title since September 2021 after rallying from an eight-shot deficit to capture the inaugural Military City Collegiate on their home Canyons Course. UTSA posted an 881 to place ahead of runner-up UTRGV by four strokes and day-one leader Middle Tennessee by five.

Individually, Hong claimed his first collegiate victory with a 1-under-par 215. The freshman opened the event with a 3-under 69 and a 72 on the first day and closed with a 74 in windy conditions for the final round to win by one shot.

Vargas ranks second on the squad with a 73.73 scoring mark. The senior out of Lubbock has registered six par-or-better rounds in five tournaments with his top finish of 26th coming at the Military City Collegiate.

Bare boasts a 74.56 stroke average and six par-or-better scorecards in 18 rounds as a redshirt junior. The Waco native logged his third career top 10 last week at the Military City Collegiate by placing seventh with a 3-over 219 (72-71-76).

Martinez is slated to make his third appearance of his sophomore season armed with a 74.67 average and a top-10 finish at the Compadres Collegiate in early February.

Acharya also is scheduled for his third tournament of his true freshman campaign after tying for 11th at the Military City Collegiate. He carded a 222 that included a collegiate-best, 4-under 68 in the second round while lowering his season average to 75.33.

Solorza is coming off the best finish of his young collegiate career, as the redshirt freshman from Mexico tied for eighth with a 220 (75-71-74) at the Military City Collegiate. He owns a 75.4 scoring mark and two straight top-20 showings.

King has logged a 75.92 stroke average through 12 rounds of his senior season. He posted his top finish of 24th at the Compadres Collegiate earlier this year, while his top score was a 72 in the second round of the Badger Invitational last fall.
