HOUSTON – On Saturday, UTSA Baseball played its second of three games at the 2026 BRUCE BOLT College Classic in Daikin Park. The Roadrunners squared off with Coastal Carolina, the ninth-ranked team in D1Baseball’s Top 25 Poll. Five home runs from the Navy & Orange highlighted an outstanding day at the plate as they racked up 16 runs on 18 hits, toppling last season’s Men’s College World Series participants. The 16-10 victory bumped UTSA to 9-1 overall with one game remaining at this weekend’s tournament.
FIRST INNING
In a complete turnaround from Friday’s win, UTSA wasted no time in making an offensive impact. After just three pitches, Caden Miller had already scored from his double on a well-placed Drew Detlefsen single. Lane Haworth stepped up next, sending a 3-2 pitch to the same spot as his go-ahead home run from 24 hours earlier. The right fielder’s blast put the ‘Runners up 3-0 before suffering a single out, setting the tone in a flash.
Coastal Carolina served as the home team on Saturday, stepping up to the plate already facing a three-run deficit. A leadoff double was followed up by an infield single that cut the margin to two, before Kendall Dove settled in on the mound.
THIRD INNING
The ‘Runners got started with another Detlefsen base knock, with Haworth adding a walk. Andrew Stucky came through with a hard-fought single that loaded the bases for Josh Arquette. On a 1-2 count, the sophomore from nearby Kingwood, Texas, secured the highlight of his young career. Arquette unleashed one to the Crawford Boxes in left, ripping the game open on a grand slam for a 7-1 lead.
Meanwhile, Dove continued a remarkable stretch on the mound. The junior retired 12 straight batters after allowing the first-inning score, needing just 20 total pitches to escape innings two and three combined.
FIFTH INNING
After both offenses cooled in the fourth, 11 total runs came across in the middle frame. Stucky reached safely on a single before Christian Hallmark drove him home on a double that drifted into the right-field corner. Garrett Gruell’s double came not long after, setting up a Diego Diaz walk. With two outs, Caden Miller notched a double of his own, plating a pair of teammates to pull ahead 11-1. Just two pitches later, Detlefsen ripped the game open on a laser to the iconic left-field bleachers, sending his side to the home half up by a dozen.
The Chanticleers responded with five runs, forcing a pitching change midway through the inning. Jake Qualia saw two hits and an error on three straight at-bats before escaping with a 13-6 margin.
SIXTH INNING
Following a Roadrunner double play, CCU got back to work offensively. The Chanticleers added a single and a double before capitalizing on the opportunity with an RBI groundout that cut the deficit to 13-7.
EIGHTH INNING
Andrew Stucky took the first pitch of the frame to the deepest part of the ballpark, bouncing a solo home run off of Craig Biggio’s 3,000-hit marker in left-center field. While no more damage came to bear, Qualia found his groove as he continued a stretch where nine of 10 straight batters were retired.
NINTH INNING
Diego Diaz earned a walk, advancing on two ground balls and a stolen base for the Roadrunners’ 15th score of the evening. On the next pitch, Drew Detlefsen found the seats in the outfield for the second time, capping off an extraordinary day that included four hits, four runs, two home runs and a highlight diving grab on defense.
Two doubles and a pair of singles plated three final runs for CCU, but the effort proved to be too little and too late. On a first-pitch fly ball, Lane Haworth secured the catch for the final out, sending his team to 9-1 on the season with a top-10 upset.
