WICHITA, Kan. The UTSA men’s tennis team fell to Wichita State, 6-1, on Sunday at the Coleman Tennis Complex, with sophomore Oskar Grzegorzewski picking up the Roadrunners lone point of the afternoon.
The Shockers jumped out to an early lead with Pablo Roche Alcaya and Zaid Al Mashni besting Grzegorzewski and classmate Ben Chetewy Ungar, 6-1, and Ilias Worthington and Rodrigo Cruz topping the freshman duo of Maximilian Ontiveros and Yonatan Sagiv, 6-2.
In singles play, Cruz has a comeback win over Ontiveros, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Alejandro Jacome then topped freshman Timeo Bretin, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, and Roche Alcaya, Chetwey Ungar, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to hand Wichita State a 4-0 edge. From there, Luke Bracks defeated Sagiv, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, before Grzegorzewski bested Worthington, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6). Rounding things out, No. 101 Al Mashini beat sophomore Enzo Vargas, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4.
UTSA will head back to San Antonio, where they’ll face off with Tulane on Friday at 1 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
