SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team suffered a 17-0 run-rule defeat at the hands of Washington on Day One of the 2026 UTSA Invitational at Roadrunner Field on Friday.
The Roadrunners (0-1) fell to the Huskies (1-1) as Sophia Ramuno (1-0) picked up the win, while freshman Arlette Hernandez (0-1) was dealt the loss after fanning two across one inning. Herandez was joined by classmates Brookelynn Meador and Aubrey Flores in making collegiate debuts. Additionally, Junior Samantha Mundine and redshirt junior Jett Harrell both saw their first action in a UTSA uniform.
Senior Madison Hornback and classmate Taryn Madlock were UTSA’s lone baserunners of the afternoon, each logging doubles.
Washington wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as they plated six runs in the top of the first, and added two more in the second for an 8-0 lead.
UTSA threatened in the third, as Hornback laced a two-bagger into center field for the Roadrunners first hit of the season. The threat, however, did not come to pass as Washington twirled a strikeout and induced a groundout to escape the inning unscathed.
The Huskies added four more in the fourth and five in the fifth, allowing them to secure a 17-0 run-rule victory.
The ‘Runners will look to bounce back on Saturday, with a 6:05 p.m. bout with No. 9 Nebraska, before closing out the UTSA Invitational on Sunday against No. 1 Texas at 3:05 p.m.
